The 'Overkill' Grace of God

God is generous to people even in the midst of their rebellion against him. This is not only the heart of the Christian gospel, but the experience of Christians around the world as they re-enter this narrative over and over again daily.

God is the God of "overkill" grace; he is the God who gives breathtaking Bahamian beaches to me when all I asked for was a backyard kiddie pool filled up with hose-water. He is the God who gives extravagant, candle-lit banquets when all I asked for was a quick and cheap snack from the gas station. He's the God of overabundant, generous grace - gratuitous and overwhelming.

God is the God of "too much" love. He is the God to whom we say, when confronted with an inkling of his radical grace and acceptance, "No! Surely not that much, don't love me that much!" but to no avail. There is no limit, no ceiling, no dead-end to the boundless, jealous, generous love of God in Jesus Christ.
